Hartford, CT - July 14, 2025— NAFI CT/NY/RI is delighted to announce Abby Okarmus as the recipient of the inaugural LDB Tri-State Impact Award, a honor celebrating exceptional leadership, unwavering commitment, and the enduring legacy of the agency's long-time Executive Director, Lynn Bishop.

A moment of legacy: Lynn Douglas Bishop presents the first-ever LDB Tri-State Impact Award to Abby Okarmus in recognition of her outstanding contributions to NAFI.

For over 20 years, Abby’s steadfast dedication has quietly fueled NAFI’s mission across Connecticut. Her diverse roles - as a clinician, administrator, quality assurance specialist, and Medicaid expert reflect her remarkable adaptability and calm problem-solving in high-pressure situations. Abby’s work has played a key role in reducing inefficiencies, strengthening compliance, and ensuring that programs are able to maximize available resources - always with the individuals, youth, and families served at the forefront of her efforts.

“Abby exemplifies everything the LDB Impact Award stands for,” said Amy Lefebvre, incoming Executive Director of NAFI CT/NY/RI. “Her ability to take on complex challenges, often with little notice, and solve them with grace and proficiency is truly inspiring.”

Established in June 2025, the Lynn Douglas Bishop Award honors Lynn’s 30-year legacy of visionary, team-centered, and results-driven leadership as she transitions from her role as Executive Director to Chief Operating Officer of NAFI/NFI. Abby’s recognition as the inaugural recipient highlights her behind-the-scenes brilliance and alignment with Lynn’s core values of growth, connection, and decisive leadership.
